The topics covered included how the Cook County Sheriff\u2019s Office coordinates patrol and investigation\u00a0teams, their data analysis and predictive models, ongoing investigations, discussions of what it’s like to\u00a0be part of active pursuits, vehicle tracking permissions, and awareness tips for residents.<\/p>\n

Carjackings have risen by approximately 43% in Cook County in 2021 compared to the same period last\u00a0year. Additional efforts by the Chicago Police Department, including deployment locations and strategies,\u00a0can be also found in a previous webinar \u00a0Alderman Hopkins hosted, located here<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

One of the newest programs the Cook County Sheriff\u2019s Office offers for residents is the\u00a0Consent-to-Release-Data Form<\/a><\/strong><\/span>. Filling out and submitting this form will allow law enforcement to access data\u00a0location information for your vehicle from the relevant car model\u00a0ONLY if the car has been unlawfully\u00a0taken<\/strong><\/em>. Swift access to such information can help law enforcement recover your vehicle in the event of it\u00a0being stolen.<\/p>\n

Email the completed form,\u00a0located here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, to\u00a0ccso.cartrack@ccsheriff.org<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and keep a copy for your\u00a0records.<\/p>\n

Motorists can also display a new awareness sticker on their vehicle that lets would-be criminals know the\u00a0vehicle is trackable. The stickers are now available at courthouses and sheriff’s police stations. For more\u00a0information on this program, please contact the\u00a0Cook County Sheriff’s Office.<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Regarding the ongoing efforts by the Vehicular Hijacking Task Force, units have\u00a0been assigned to West Town, Lincoln Park, Old Town, Gold Coast, River North,\u00a0and Streeterville. At this time, 55 officers have been assigned to the Vehicular\u00a0Hijacking Task Force.<\/p>\n
