To help homeowners who have mail-delivery problems,\u00a0cookcountytreasurer.com<\/a>\u00a0now shows when tax bills have been returned by the U.S. Postal Service, Cook County Treasurer\u00a0Maria Pappas said today.<\/p>\n

\u201cProperty owners who don\u2019t receive their tax bills often face interest charges for late payments and even see their properties go up for sale for delinquent taxes,\u201d Pappas said. \u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0an unnecessary waste of time and money, and it\u2019s unfair.\u201d<\/p>\n

A team in the Treasurer\u2019s Office has reduced the number of properties with incorrect mailing addresses to 63,500, down from 86,200 two years ago.<\/p>\n

To see if your tax bills have been returned, visit\u00a0cookcountytreasurer.com<\/a> and:
\n\u2022 Select the purple box, \u201cYour Property Tax Overview\u201d
\n\u2022 Enter your address or Property Index Number (PIN)
\n\u2022 Look for a red warning box that pops up if your bills have been returned
\n\u2022 Update your mailing information if it is incorrect
\n\u2022 Choose \u201ceBilling\u201d if you wish to receive your bill by email<\/p>\n
