{"id":8460,"date":"2018-01-22T18:20:46","date_gmt":"2018-01-22T18:20:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rnrachicago.org\/?p=8460"},"modified":"2018-01-22T18:20:46","modified_gmt":"2018-01-22T18:20:46","slug":"red-light-cameras-installed-at-strategic-michigan-avenue-intersections-to-deter-light-running-and-improve-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsite.rnrachicago.org\/?p=8460","title":{"rendered":"Red Light Cameras Installed at Strategic Michigan Avenue Intersections to Deter Light\u00a0Running and Improve Safety"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-8461\" src=\"https:\/\/rnrachicago.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/RLC2MichOntarioSWX-224x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" \/>Red Light Cameras Installed at Strategic Michigan Avenue Intersections to Deter Light\u00a0Running and Improve Safety<\/p>\n<p>Alderman Reilly is pleased to announce that Automated Red Light Camera Enforcement (RLC) Cameras at the\u00a0intersections of Michigan Avenue and Ontario Street, and Michigan Avenue and Jackson Boulevard will be\u00a0activated on\u00a0Monday, January 22. \u00a0Violations will not be issued for the first two weeks, until February 5.<\/p>\n<p>Alderman Reilly negotiated with the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) to have RLCs installed at\u00a0the intersection of Michigan and Ontario based on residents&#8217; feedback about safety concerns.\u00a0This intersection\u00a0also has one of the largest pedestrian volumes in the City.<\/p>\n<p>The RLCs replace cameras that were removed from other locations last year. \u00a0The two new locations that were\u00a0chosen have consistently scored high for potential red-light camera placement due to the high number of\u00a0crashes and the unique characteristics of the intersections. Both intersections have large number of\u00a0pedestrians and heavy vehicular movements which make pedestrians particularly vulnerable.<\/p>\n<p>CDOT has posted new signage on the approach to the affected intersections to alert motorists that the\u00a0cameras have been installed.
