{"id":8576,"date":"2018-02-08T08:27:54","date_gmt":"2018-02-08T08:27:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rnrachicago.org\/?p=8576"},"modified":"2018-02-08T08:27:54","modified_gmt":"2018-02-08T08:27:54","slug":"alderman-reilly-introduces-measure-to-protect-condominium-owners-privacy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsite.rnrachicago.org\/?p=8576","title":{"rendered":"Alderman Reilly Introduces Measure to Protect Condominium Owners&#8217; Privacy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alderman Reilly recently introduced a new ordinance at the January 17, 2018 City Council meeting that\u00a0would invoke Chicago&#8217;s &#8220;Home Rule Authority&#8221; to overrule Section 19(a)(7) of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ilga.gov\/legislation\/ilcs\/ilcs3.asp?ActID=2200&amp;ChapterID=62\">Illinois Condominium\u00a0Property Act<\/a> that was recently passed by the Illinois State Legislature. \u00a0Alderman Brian Hopkins joined\u00a0Alderman Reilly as a co-sponsor of the measure.<\/p>\n<p>This section of the Illinois Condominium Property Act raises concerns about privacy because it forces\u00a0condominium owners to make personal information, such as email addresses and telephone numbers,\u00a0available upon request.<\/p>\n<p>Since the state law was approved, Aldermen Reilly and Hopkins have received calls and letters from\u00a0hundreds of condominium owners, asking them to use Chicago&#8217;s &#8220;Home Rule Authority&#8221; to invalidate the\u00a0new requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Alderman Reilly crafted the ordinance to defer to the wishes of local homeowner&#8217;s association. \u00a0As\u00a0drafted, the ordinance would prevent a homeowner&#8217;s association from sharing unit owners&#8217; private\u00a0information, unless a majority of the full association votes to allow for the sharing of that personal\u00a0information.<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned \u00a0for future updates on this important privacy matter.<\/p>\n<p>Source: \u00a0Alderman Reilly Reports 1\/26\/18<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alderman Reilly recently introduced a new ordinance at the January 17, 2018 City Council meeting that\u00a0would invoke Chicago&#8217;s &#8220;Home Rule Authority&#8221; to overrule Section 19(a)(7) of the Illinois Condominium\u00a0Property Act that was recently passed by the Illinois State Legislature. \u00a0Alderman Brian Hopkins joined\u00a0Alderman Reilly as a co-sponsor of the measure.
