Dear Neighbor,<\/p>\n

I spent my day coordinating with the Commissioner of the Department and\u00a0Streets & Sanitation and the 2nd Ward Superintendent, making sure that we\u00a0are ready for this weekend\u2019s winter storm.<\/p>\n

A Winter Storm Warning is forecasted to begin 6:00 pm on Thursday, February\u00a08, and is expected to last well into Friday night. Chicago could get up to 14\u201d of\u00a0snow over the duration of the storm, with an additional 1-3\u201d of snow possible\u00a0on Saturday and Sunday as well.<\/p>\n

To ensure residents are prepared, here are some helpful tips:<\/p>\n

\u2022 It is encouraged to stay off the roads during this storm if you can help it.\u00a0Road conditions and visibility are expected to be very poor.\u00a0Check the\u00a0Emergency Closing Center to see the status of Chicagoland schools,\u00a0businesses, daycare centers &\u00a0organizations<\/a>.\u00a0http:\/\/www.emergencyclosingcenter.com\/complete.html<\/a><\/div>\n
\u2022 The Department of Streets and Sanitation is expecting to deploy as many\u00a0drivers and vehicles onto surface streets to keep up with the snow.\u00a0Snowplows will focus on keeping arterial streets clear during the snow\u00a0storm for emergency vehicles.\u00a0Follow Chicago’s Plow Tracker online<\/a>.<\/div>\n
\u2022 Once it is determined by Street Operations that the arterial streets are\u00a0safe and clear, only then will plow trucks be deployed into residential\u00a0streets.<\/div>\n
\u2022 This may include pulling garbage trucks and drivers to help clear the\u00a0streets. If your garbage is not picked up on Friday, please send at e-mail to\u00a0ward02@cityofchicago.org<\/a> and\u00a0john.geahan@cityofchicago.org<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0indicate the address with the missed pickup.<\/div>\n
\u2022 Try and keep your sidewalks clear during the storm as often as you can.\u00a0Lend a hand to seniors in keeping their sidewalks clear as well.<\/div>\n
\u2022 When shoveling your sidewalks or driveways, please\u00a0DO NOT SHOVEL\u00a0SNOW INTO THE STREET. Adding additional snow onto the street\u00a0makes it more difficult to keep the street safe and clear.<\/div>\n
\u2022 Avoid parking your vehicle on arterial streets if possible and be sure you\u00a0are not parking your car along any of the streets on the\u00a0overnight parking\u00a0ban map<\/a>.<\/div>\n

Chicago Public Schools has announced all schools will be closed on Friday,\u00a0February 9.<\/p>\n

The 2nd Ward Service Office will be open on Friday, February 9 with regular\u00a0hours,\u00a0and will be closed on Monday, February 12 in observance of\u00a0Lincoln’s Birthday.\u00a0Over the weekend, staff and I will be actively monitoring\u00a0the storm.
